Job Summary:
The 10-Week Summer Internship program is an extraordinary opportunity to gain hands-on experience and to learn from best-in-class talent at a first-class organization. Experience day to day projects and tasks in Accounting & Finance! You will work during the season on game and non-game days to get the full experience. Your time will not only be spent adding significant value to the organization, but you will also get the opportunity to build amazing relationships throughout the organization through a series of Leadership-led Coffee Chats and Networking Events. The program's focus is to provide insight into what the workforce is like, give a taste of the professional sports industry and help guide you to a career suited for you.
All the responsibilities we will trust you with:
- Exemplifying our Padres Core Values/Mission Statement: Communication and Collaboration, Progress and Innovation, Accountability and Integrity, and Effort and Results, through building meaningful connections with a diverse fan base and serving as impactful leaders in the San Diego community
- Shadow the Accounting & Finance and train in a variety of tasks
- Perform vendor maintenance in the accounting system
- Enter all incoming vendor data from the vendor onboarding portal into the accounting system
- Verbally confirm banking information via outbound call for all vendors set up for ACH or wire payments
- Weekly check run clerical support such as envelope stuffing/mailing and preparing approval batches for check signers
- Assist in preparing in-season team hotel invoice reconciliation and preparing approval batches for review
- Manual downloading of invoices and other supporting documents
- Assist with Day of Game Revenue reporting
- Assist with accounting for daily ticket sales and payments made through the ticketing system
- Account for and assist with jersey inventory controls
- Weekly sales invoice support such as verifying customer information, generating sales invoices, and preparing approval batches for review
- Assist Staff Accountant with review of weekly expense report submissions and creating journal entry for review
- Attend and be actively involved in department meetings, as well as inter-departmental meetings
- Categorization of special event transaction codes for P&L consolidation
- Other duties and projects assigned
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most:
- Advanced computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc., and knowledge of basic office equipment, including telephone, copier, etc.
- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and effectively work well with others in a collaborative, respectful manner
- Strong sense of teamwork; able to create and maintain positive relationships within organization with a wide variety of co-workers
- Exceptional organizational skills, with ability to follow directions and meet established deadlines
- Maintain professional demeanor with a high degree of discretion, integrity, and accountability
- Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
You will be required to meet the following:
- Current college/university student who has completed Sophomore or Junior year by June 2025 OR current graduate student
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
- Must be available mid-June 2025 through mid-August 2025
- Minimum physical requirements: able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark for prolonged periods of time during games and events; able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds
- As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check
Pay and additional compensation:
Per the California pay transparency law, the hourly pay rate for this position is $20.42. Part time, non-union employees are subject to the San Diego Living Wage Ordinance and rates will increase accordingly.
