Housed within the UC Davis Health Information Technology (IT) Division in partnership with the School of Medicine and the Clinical and Translational Science Center Biomedical Informatics Program (CTSC), this organization provides data management, enterprise database support, computing infrastructure, and technology support services to UC Davis’ nationally recognized business and research initiatives. The Data Systems Analyst 4 (DSA4) is a Senior Database Developer / Programmer / IT Architect, possesses advanced knowledge, skills, and experience which can be applied to major projects. This position plays a strategic role in creating a research technology environment that will impact the UC Davis enterprise, along with awarded statewide and national projects.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the analysis, retrieval and management of clinical data from a healthcare software system
- Minimum 3 year experience maintaining and supporting clinical systems such as Clinical Trials Management Systems, Biorepositories, Electronic Data Capture Systems, Faculty Profile Management Systems, or Investigation Drug Management Systems
- Minimum 2 year of experience working with standardized healthcare codes (e.g., ICD, COT, LOINC, SNOMED).
- Minimum 4 year experience with various programming languages and software such as SQL, MySQL, Oracle, stored procedures, Python, Tableau, Business Objects
- Familiar with the use of secure file sharing such as SFTP, and understanding of best practices in data management, data security, and data privacy within clinical systems
- Familiar with electronic health record systems, such as EPIC
- Familiar with data integration, data repository design, and management of enterprise data repository systems
- Working knowledge of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) applications
- Experience in the design, development of enterprise data marts with high availability/scalability/performance
- Experience with integrating complicated data from very disparate sources
- Experience with PL/SQL and SQL
- Experience working with data analytics
- Proficient in computer science algorithms and data structures
- Ability to analyze research data management workflow and apply software or procedural solutions
- Experience with installation, configuration, maintenance, and trouble-shooting of computer operating systems
- Demonstrated experience with data interface engines in a healthcare environment
- Demonstrated organization skills and flexibility to manage multiple tasks independently and meet deadlines
- Experience working as a responsible team member with excellent communication and customer service skills necessary to effectively contribute to a creative group
- Experience using logic and flow diagrams to describe the function processes of a system
- Demonstrated writing skills needed to translate system processes and associated manual processes into clear instructions and explanations
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science degree or 10+ years of experience
- EPIC knowledge and experience strongly preferred
- Advanced experience working with relational database design, information and database modeling
- Epic/Clarity skills are preferred, while this role will not be supporting that system directly
- Experience with cyber or network security development
- Business Intelligence experience; (i.e. Business Objects Suite)
- Knowledge of HIPAA patient confidentiality and privacy regulations

Department Overview
The UC Davis Health, Data Center of Excellence (DCOE) leads, manages, coordinates, administers, and implements major business and scientific technology projects and grants on a statewide and national level for the UC Davis Health. This organization is unique because: it not only requires its employees to have IT competency, but also scientific and business expertise in Biomedical Informatics. Project sponsors and partners that are served by this unit include internal and external Principal Investigators, pharmaceutical companies, governmental agencies, and a variety of commercial companies.
Department Specific Job Scope
A primary responsibility of the DSA4 is to architect, design, implement, and maintain a research data mart capable of supporting data retrievals and advanced analytics. The incumbent will also design and implement business intelligence solutions for aggregating data from multiple sources and producing time sensitive reports and dashboards. Major projects include support for research systems such as OMOP, Atlas, REDCap, and Tableau. This position will also design and implement data source acquisition, ETL (extract, transform, load) processes, and application development for a variety of complex projects. Work and decisions are reviewed in terms of meeting objectives when performed within the accepted parameters of UCD/UCDH policies and procedures and the general guidelines of the department. However, innovative solutions to application problems are discussed with and approved by the unit managers, particularly those that affect the accountability of the unit and coordination of work. Incumbent interacts with operating systems and data management systems, and has independent responsibility for clinical data warehousing applications related t assigned projects and associated grants; developing and maintaining interfaces with separate data systems; and provides specification development for each component of the project infrastructure. This position will work with Health System and Clinical and Translation Science Center data management applications, which may include PL\SQL, SQL, Java, Business Objects, various open-source applications, and select vendor and custom interface engines. This position could also serve as the lead project manager on specific projects.
